Exhibiton: Appalachian Light Images
"These photographs represent my attempts at capturing the essence of light, weather, and atmosphere
as they define the Blue Ridge and characterize the mountains of southern Appalachia.  Themes of
transience, beauty and transformation recur throughout the collection, as I hope to share some of the
remarkable experiences that I have had while mingling with the elements in our Southern Highlands.

Most of the images were made along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mountains-to-Sea trail near Asheville,
NC, from Richland Balsam, southwest of Asheville, to Mt. Mitchell 30 miles to the north.

In 2009, the creation of
The Soul Tree: Poems and Photographs of the Southern Appalachians,
inspired an accompanying exhibition of photographs from the book and also inspired me to continue
and extend this body of work using medium format film and 35mm digital photography.

The exhibit may include up to 20 framed photographic prints.  Most image sizes are approx. 16 x 24”
and are matted and framed to approx. 24 x 32.”
